Undefeated Carl Frampton (21-0, 14 KOs) unified the IBF and WBA super bantamweight titles with a split decision victory over previously unbeaten Scott Quigg (31-1-2, 21 KOs) on Saturday afternoon at the Manchester Arena. Frampton edged out the first six rounds, being the slightly more animated fighter. Quigg didn’t really commit to an offensive push until the final four rounds where he found a lot of success with a barrage of body shots. Frampton seemed to be fading a bit in the eleventh round as a result of the body work but Quigg could not close the show. Frampton fought off Quigg in the final round and earned scores of 116-112 for the decision. One judge had Quigg on top with a score of 115-113.

“We have a great rivalry and it was a great fight in the end. The first half wasn’t great but we can do it again” said Frampton who said he’s comfortable at super bantamweight “I’m happy to compete at super bantamweight but if a big fight comes calling at featherweight, [Leo] Santa Cruz, [Lee] Selby and these guys, I respect them all but I’m ready for them”

“I felt comfortable, I felt it was even after 4 and in the second half of the fight I put the foot to the pedal and especially in the eleventh, I had him going” said Quigg “With the judges scorecards, I should have started faster but it’s too late now. I wasn’t getting hit clean. I was catching a lot of the punches but that’s the way the judges seen it and I would love a rematch”
