WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia was forced to forfeit his title on Friday afternoon in Dallas, TX when he scaled in at 128 lbs, two pounds over the 126 featherweight limit. His opponent Juan Manuel “JuanMa” Lopez stepped on the scale just shy of the limit at 125.25 and will still be eligible to claim the title should he win on Saturday night.

“He might be better inside the ring but he wasn’t very professional today on the scale said Lopez “everybody said I was done, that I was finished. Everyone said I wouldn’t make the weight but I made the weight with no problem and I’ll show you tomorrow what I can do.

According to Fightnews.com, there were “Tense moments” following the weigh in when both sides could not come to an agreement to what Garcia’s penalty would be.  The fight was nearly called off when the Garcia camp felt “JuanMa” wanted too much money. The promoter Top Rank, later announced that both camps had reached an agreement and that the fight was on.. Tune in to see the results Saturday night on HBO..
