Gesta took opening two rounds but Barnett rallied back to take the third. Gesta had his opponent in trouble and on wobbly legs in the fifth but couldn’t finish the taller Barnett. A flurry of shots floored Barnett in the closing seconds of the ninth. After beating the count, a one-two combination from the southpaw put him right back down just as the bell sounded to end the round. Referee Jay Nady waived it off moments later as Barnett struggled to make it to his corner. Official time was 2:59
Unbeaten Jesse Magdaleno (11-0. 8 KOs) stopped Aldimar Silva Santos (17-3, 9 KOs) in the second round of a scheduled eight. Santos hit the deck in the final seconds of round one and a flurry of brutal head shots ended it in the second with Santos on the canvas. Referee Robert Byrd stepped in at 2:54 just as Santos was going down.
Jesus Gutierrez (5-0, 2 KOs) earned a unanimous decision over James Burns (1-1) after four rounds. Scores were 39-37 and 40-36 twice.
Also on the card, Super bantamweight prospect Gabino Saenz (7-0-1, 5 KOs) edged out a majority decision over DeWayne Wisdom (2-5, 1 KO) . Scores were 59-55 twice with the third judge seeing it a 57-57 draw.
