Super featherweight Jayson Velez (22-0-1, 16 KOs) remained unbeaten on Thursday night by defeating Daniel Ramirez (11-2, 5 KOs) after ten rounds at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. A one-two combo rocked Ramirez in the second round and a follow up left hook on the chin put him on the canvas. The Tijuana fighter would recover well and even put together his own attack following the knockdown. Ramirez battled back in the third and seemed to earn the respect of the Puerto Rican who seemed a bit reluctant. Both fighters connected in the fourth but it was clear that Velez had the heavier hands. A body attack from Velez didn’t slow the output from Ramirez who continued to throw and land his own big shots in the middle rounds. Velez was the more active fighter in the final rounds and outpointed a tough Ramirez with scores of 99-90 and 98-91 twice.

In an action filled co-feature, Carlos Morales (8-1-3, 3 KOs) edged out a unanimous decision over a game Emmanuel Gonzalez (14-1, 7 KOs) after eight rounds in the super featherweight division. Gonzalez put up a hell of an effort, pressed the action at times and stayed active but Morales boxed and seemed to land the cleaner counter shots. Gonzalez slowed in the final rounds while Morales finished strong to earn scores of 77-75, 78-75 and an odd 80-72.

Undefeated Christian Gonzalez (9-0, 9 KOs) was looking for his tenth straight KO victory but would have to settle for a one-sided unanimous decision over an awkward Darryl Hayes (3-4, 1 KO). Hayes who was deducted a point in round two for holding actually did well when he was forced to fight, unfortunately he chose to hold when under pressure instead of throwing. Gonzalez pressed and dominated the action over the six round lightweight bout and earned scores of 59-53 and 60-52 twice.
