Gallery Golovkin drops Monroe 3 times in KO victory!

Undefeated middleweight champ Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) kept the KO streak alive, earning his 20th straight stoppage with a sixth round beat down of Willie Monroe Jr. (19-1, 6 KOs) on Saturday night at The Forum in Inglewood Ca. Monroe took two trips to the canvas in round two but somehow weathered the storm and survived the round. Golovkin seemed to take his foot off the gas and allowed Monroe to find his senses and get back in the fight. Monroe was boxing and landing some big shots in the fourth and fifth rounds. Unfortunately, in the sixth the heavy handed Golovkin went for the kill. An accumulation of punches put Monroe down in the sixth and barely beat the count, however when asked by referee Jack Reiss if he wanted to continue, Monroe responded with “I’m done”. Reiss would wave it off just 45 seconds into the round.

“I gave him a chance, I’m here, let’s bring big drama show” said Golovkin “I never lost control… I felt comfortable. ”

“Right now, I’m ready for a big fight” added Golovkin “to Canelo, to Cotto, I’m ready right now”

Undefeated flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (43-0, 36 KOs) took out veteran challenger Edgar Sosa (51-8, 30 KOs) inside two rounds to successfully defend his WBC strap. Gonzalez would send Sosa to the canvas three times before referee Raul Caiz Jr. stepped in and put a halt to the beat down.

“I gave everything in the gym to have a performance like this” Said Gonzalez

On the undercard,

Undefeated bantamweight Ivan Morales (28-0, 15 KOs) stopped Danny Flores (14-7-1, 8 KOs) in the eighth and final round. In a lack luster performance, Morales finally put together a flurry that had the referee stepping in to save Flores, who was more gassed than hurt at the point of the stoppage. Official time was :48 of round 8.

Unbeaten super featherweight Pedro Duran (10-0, 7 KOs) scored a sixth round TKO over a game Daniel Perales (5-1-1, 3 KOs). Perales had his moments but it was Duran who seemed to land the more effective shots. Duran scored a knockdown in the opening round but it wasn’t until the sixth where an accumulation of shots had the ref stepping in and halting the action. Official time was 2:50.

In female action, Seniesa Estrada (4-0, 1 KO) edged out a unanimous decision over Carley Batey (4-5-2) after six rounds. Estrada scored a knockdown in the fifth round but Batey would beat the count and survive the round. All three judges would have Estrada on top with scores of 57-56 and 58-55 twice.

Ruslan Mediev (4-2, 2 KOs) scored a second round TKO over Julio Sanchez (1-2).
