Herrera dominates Huerta!

Mauricio Herrera (20-3, 7 KO’s) dominated veteran Miguel Angel Huerta (27-11-1, 18 KO’s) Saturday night at the Double Tree Hotel in Ontario Ca. and earned a unanimous decision victory after eight rounds.

Herrera, of Lake Elsinore simply out boxed and outworked the Garden Grove fighter and though Huerta had moments when he put together body-head combinations, it was Herrera who turned up the heat in the later rounds and earned wide scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74.

SONY DSCIn the co-feature Giovanni Santillan (10-0, 5 KOs) won his tenth straight with a four round beat down of Angel Martinez (13-4-1, 9 KOs) resulting in a corner stoppage. Santillan dropped Martinez in the opening round and proceeded to pound the Mexican fighter for the next three rounds. Referee David Deynkin stepped in and halted the action at the request of Martinez’s corner. Official time was 1:16 of round four.

On the undercard,

Lightweight Joaquin Chavez (6-10-2, 2 KOs) stunned San Diego’s Anthony Arellano (6-2-1, 2 KOs) with a six round majority decision victory. Arellano pressed the action in the opening rounds but Chavez rallied back with vicious combinations over the final four to earn scores of 58-56 twice for the victory. The third judge saw it even at 57-57.

In a surprising upset, Francisco Camacho (2-3, 1 KO) outworked previously unbeaten Jorge Ruiz (3-1, 1 KOs) over four rounds to earn a unanimous decision. Camacho pressed the action and threw combinations while Ruiz seemed to be looking for one big shot that never came. In the end, two judges saw it a complete shut out with scores of 40-36 while the third judge found one round to give Ruiz, calling it 39-37.

Tehachapi’s Neeco Macias (1-0) earned a unanimous decision over a game Francisco Ramirez (0-1) after four rounds of action. It wasn’t pretty but Macias, known as the “Rooster” out-worked Ramirez to earn scores of 40-36 all around.

In a slug-fest between two fighters making their pro-debut, Cesar Villarraga (1-0, 1 KO) survived a first round knockdown to stop Sopaun Rin (0-1) in the final round. Villarraga, of Colombia hit the deck in the first round but returned the favor in the second, flooring Rin with a right hand. Following a brutal third round that had Rin on shaky legs, a left hook in round four sent Rin crashing to the canvas. Referee David Denkin immediately stepped in and waved it off. Time was :09

Watsonville’s Jonathan Garcia (12-0, 9 KOs) scored a second round KO victory over Christopher Rivera (5-14-1, 4 KOs) in a bout scheduled for six in the welterweight division. A left hook to the back of Garcia’s head put him down for the count. Referee Tim Taylor would reach the count of eight with Garcia attempting to rise but chose to wave it off moments later. Official time was :37 of round two.
