Standnfight’s Dominic Serna recently caught up with undefeated super bantamweight Jessie Magdaleno (22-0, 16 KOs) who is coming off a 1st round KO victory over Vergel Nebran in October.

The 24 year old Magdaleno is a rumored front runner for a 2016 clash with Nonito Donaire.

I’m quick, I have power and I think right now that will really affect Donaire. My reaction time is in the ring is a lot quicker than his right now and I feel my power will out beat him. If I really put my mind and soul into it, I don’t see it going past eight. -Jessie Magdaleno

DS: First off congratulations on your recent win and as we close out 2015, are you happy with what you accomplished this year?

Magdaleno: Actually, No. I felt like I was set back a little in 2015. I had some things set me back but there are some great things coming next year so I am excited about that. Hopefully we can close out 2016, nice.

DS: I heard that you might be in line for a title shot, what can you tell me about that?

Magdaleno: Yea, we might have a title shot against Nonito Donaire for the WBO title and my manager and Top Rank are working on it for the middle of next year.

DS: what would that mean to you?

Magdaleno: It’ll mean the world to me. I mean, I think it’s time for a new champion. I feel Donaire did his thing but it’s time for a rising star to take boxing to another level.

DS: Will that be your next fight?

Magdaleno: I think we’ll take a tune-up fight first and then from there we’ll move on to the title shot against Donaire.

DS: How do you see a fight with Donaire playing out?

Magdaleno: Honestly, Donaire is a great fighter. I’ve been kind of studying him. His last fight, he showed a bit of weekness and I know I’m quick, I have power and I think right now that will really affect Donaire. My reaction time is in the ring is a lot quicker than his right now and I feel my power will out beat him. I f I really put my mind and soul into it, I don’t see it going past eight.

DS: If for some reason the fight doesn’t happen with Donaire, there are other guys in the division.

Magdaleno: Like I’ve said before, who ever it is, who ever is ready to step in front of me, I’m more than ready. If it’s a Rigondeaux, a Chris Avalos, Carl Frampton, Oscar Valdez. It’s a business but at the end of it all, you have to get in there and fight.

DS: You’re a high intensity fighter that seems to want to please the crowd every time you come out, how does it feel to be a fan favorite?

Magdaleno: It feels great and it goes to show that all the hard work I put in the gym and everything I do is to make the fans happy and I’ll never leave them in doubt. I’m always progressing but me being an action fighter gives the fans what they want.

DS: Having your older brother Diego Magdaleno along side you, how has that helped you in your career?

Magdaleno: You know, him being a rising star as well opened plenty of doors for me when I first turned pro and they are still opening for me. Look at me now, I’m in a position to get a title shot and i give all my thanks to him.

DS: Is there any competition between you two?

Magdaleno: Oh yea, all the time but we don’t do it with bad intentions. It’s more to step each others game up. We are both people who hate to lose and it’s always competition and who can take it a step further.

DS: And now with your younger brother, Marco Magdaleno, how does that competition transform to his career?

Magdaleno: He’s now in a position where he has two older brothers that are soon to be world champions and it’s going to be a lot easier for him but he just has to put the work in. We’re going to open the doors for him but he has to do the work. He’s 1-0 right now and he’s is going to be a rising star.

DS: Do you ever think of the possibility of all three of you being world champions at the same time?

Magdaleno: It’s crazy but I’ve dreamt  about it. I know we can all be world champions but we have to put the work in. I feel like that is coming real soon.
