Josesito Lopez vs Victor Ortiz is official!
Looks like it’s finally official, Riverside’s Josesito Lopez (29-4, 17 KOs) will step up and fill the spot vacated by Andre Berto and take on Victor Ortiz (29-3, 22 KOs) on June 23 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
After Berto tested positive for the banned substance norandrosterone, Ortiz was left without an opponent. Lopez, who was already training for a June 22 match up with Kendall Holt became available when Holt withdrew from the fight. According to ESPN.com Holt pulled out due to a venue dispute.
Lopez, 27 is coming off a KO victory over previously unbeaten Mike Dallas and close split decision loss to undefeated Jessie Vargas. Lopez will be fighting at 147 for the first time in his career.
According to Trainer Henry Ramirez, Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola will fight on the undercard and will make the Showtime broadcast.
“ Lopez vs Ortiz is Official And Chris Arreola Just added to The June 23rd card at Staples!” said Ramirez via Facebook. “Both My fighters will be Televised on SHOWTIME!”
