Manuel Mendez preparing for a tough fight this Friday!

Lightweight prospect Manuel Mendez (15-1-2, 11 KOs)  takes on Mohamed Rodriguez (9-4, 3 KOs) in the 8-round “Path To Glory” main event this Friday, June 23, from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.

“Honestly, that fight is going to be a pretty good fight, Rodriguez is no push-over. I’m going to have to take it to him and see if he can handle the pressure. Me and Joel (Diaz) saw a video on Youtube and he seems like a good little boxer. He’s a mover, counter puncher. I’m going to have to figure him out in the first couple rounds but I watched the whole fight and it looks like he tires out around the fourth or fifth round. I train to go the distance but I think my style and the pressure I apply doesn’t allow the fights to go the distance”

Mendez, originally from Oregon says his relentless attitude inside the ring and sacrifices outside the ring has made him the fighter he is today.

“You know, I have an I don’t give a sh!t style in there, It’s either me or him. Who’s going to eat between me and him.” he says “My record speaks for itself. I moved (to Indio Ca.) and dedicated myself and it’s paid off.

Mendez’s breakout fight was showcased on Showtime’s ShoBox series where he stopped previously unbeaten Vitor Feitas in the opening round.

“You know, that’s one thing. There’s a couple fighters here at the gym that are real good and you can see them catapulting themselves by taking a fight but some of them are afraid of losing that “0” . Not me, a record, yea it’s important but I don’t care. If they’re trying to test me or make me less than somebody else, that’s when I take pride in myself and I’m going to show you what’s up. There’s no success without the risk of failure.

This Friday will mark the third time Thompson Boxing has chosen to showcase Mendez in the main event but it hasn’t always been that way.

“You know I started from nothing. From them barely giving me fights and using me as meat to their lions, to me headlining is hella cool.”
