Mares and Moreno make weight!
WBC Super bantamweight champion Abner Mares scaled in at 121.8 on Friday and is set to face Panama’s Anselmo Moreno who stepped on the scale at a ready 120.8 lbs. The two will square off at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in a 12 round bout for Mares’ crown.
“[Moreno] hasn’t lost in twenty-something fights, in 11 years but I haven’t lost at all and I’m going to keep it that way” said Mares “I know it’s going to be a tough fight. I have no doubt about that but I trained for that. I trained for a hard fight and I’m ready for hell”
“I feel no pressure, I’ve fought most of my career in other people’s backyards and now I’m in Mares’ house” said Moreno “I prepared well for this fight and I’m looking forward to taking the victory and Abner’s title.”
In the co-feature, unbeaten Leo Santa Cruz (117.6) will put his ‘0’ and his title up for grabs when he takes on Victor Zaleta (117) in a 12 round scrap for Santa cruz’s IBF title.
Also, Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo (154) will make his return to the ring on Saturday, taking on Raul Casarez (153.8).
