Gallery Reyes-Arellano battle to a draw!

In an entertaining scrap at featherweight, former sparring partners Juan Reyes (9-1-2, 1 KO) and Jonathan Arellano (13-2-2, 3 KOs) fought to a eight round majority decision draw on Friday night at the Omega Products outdoor arena in Corona ca.

The main event, presented by Thompson Boxing promotions saw both fighters come out strong. Arellano unloaded quick combinations at the bell but it was Reyes who hit the mark first. A big right hand stunned Arellano and dropped him to the canvas midway through the round. Arellano, unfazed by the flash knockdown went back to work and survived the round. From there Arellano would box and rip off combinations as Reyes pressured and threw non stop. In the sixth, Arellano returned the favor and landed his own right hand that rocked the Riverside fighter and sent him crashing to canvas. Reyes would beat the count and finish strong as Arellano’s output seemed to slow in the final rounds.

In the end, the late rally by Reyes may have earned him the draw in a fight where Arellano seemed to be more accurate and seemed to land the cleaner shots. Judges would see it 76-74 for Reyes and 75-75 twice for the draw. Word is, a rematch is already being discussed..

In the co-feature, unbeaten Alex Theran (15-0, 8 KOs) dominated a game Justin Williams (4-8-2, 2 KO) to earn a 60-54 unanimous decision after six rounds. Williams had his moments as he landed an occasional right hand but was simply outworked by the much more active Colombian.

L.A featherweight Danny Roman (6-1-1, 2 KOs) scored a second round KO over Jose Iniguez (7-16, 1 KO). A flurry of punches sent Iniguez to the canvas for the first of two knockdowns. A left hook moments later floored Iniguez and referee Ray Corona would reach the count of ten with the Tijuana fighter still on his knees. Official time of the stoppage was 2:56 .

Watsonville’s Oscar Godoy (11-2, 6 KOs) stopped journeyman Rogello Castaneda Jr. (26-17-3, 8 KOs) at the 2:37 mark of round two. A flurry of shots floored the Sacramento fighter and moments later, referee Ray Corona waved it off at the request of Castaneda’s corner.

Hemet’s Fernando Fuentes (3-1) scored a unanimous decision over a game Alexander Hipolito (1-2, 1 KO) after four all action rounds of action. Scores were 39-37, 40-36 and 40-36.
