Gallery Roman and Arellano steal the show in Ontario!

Super bantamweights Daniel Roman (10-2-1, 4 KOs) and Jonathan Arellano (14-3-2, 3 KOs) weren’t fighting for a world title or even headlining the Thompson Boxing fight card at the Double Tree hotel on Friday night… But they put it all on the line, gave the crowd a show and fought like they were.

Roman, of Los Angeles would dominate on the cards and win a unanimous decision victory over Ontario’s Arellano but the 80-70 and 79-71 score cards are only half the story. Roman pressed the action and his output may have earned him the wide scores but Arellano didn’t go without a fight. 1-3-1 in his last five fights, Arellano was fighting for his career. Unfortunately for him, Roman was just a bit sharper and more active over the eight round contest. Arellano countered with big shots but allowing Roman to dictate the pace may have been his downfall. Arellano hit the deck twice in the final round and was struggling to his feet as the final bell rang. The all action battle was more entertaining than the lopsided cards would indicate and I can guarantee it’s the fight the fans remember.

In the main event, Artemio “The King” Reyes (21-2, 17 KOs) needed less than two rounds to dispose of his foe Abraham Osuna (16-5-1, 7 KOs). Reyes dominated the action from the opening bell and dropped the Mexican fighter four times before referee Ray Corona mercifully stepped in and waved it off. Official time was 2:01.

In the co-feature San Diego’s Giovanni Santillan (12-0, 7 KOs) fought off an awkward but game Joaquin Chavez (7-12-3, 2 KOs) over eight rounds to earn scores of 77-74, 79-72 and 78-73.
On the undercard,

Previously unbeaten Erick Ituarte (7-1-1, 1 KO) was dealt his first professional loss by Cesar Valenzuela (6-3-1, 2 KOs). Valenzuela out worked the Santa Ana fighter over six rounds to earn scores of 58-56, 59-55 and 59-55.

Unbeaten Ken Alvarez (6-0-2, 3 KOs) and Joshua Marks (8-5-1, 8 KOs) fought to a six round majority draw. Marks seemed to be the busier fighter and even scored a knockdown in round three. Unfortunately when the scores were read, the deciding two judges would see it 57-57 for the draw. The third judge would have Marks ahead 59-56.
