Gallery Thurman-Garcia heats up in Brooklyn

The highly anticipated unification showdown between unbeaten welterweight world champions Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) and Danny “Swift” Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) will headline SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS, presented by Premier Boxing Champions, Saturday, March 4 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Things heated up today when the two met at the Barclays center to officially announce the 12 round unification fight. Everything seemed to be running smoothly until Angel Garcia, Danny’s father took the mic.

“I’ll give Thurman a little bit of respect, he’s the WBA champ but he was made a champion, (Danny) became a champion.” Angel Garcia said. (Thurman) is good but (Danny) is great”

“Two of the best welterweights in the world going toe-to-toe and somebody’s “0” has to go”. I’m truly looking forward to this fight. I asked for this fight like I asked for the Porter fight. said Thurman “This fight, you don’t want to miss. There’s too much action and too much on the line. I applaud (Danny) for all his accomplishments but most of those accomplishments were at 140 not 147. That’s why he’s stepping up and trying to make a statement on March 4th. The only problem is, he signed the wrong contract.”

Things went south quickly when Thurman ended his time at the podium with “Danny Garcia, you’re getting knocked out”. Angel Garcia didn’t take the prediction well and started shouting out insults.

“C’mon ponytail, You’re a bitch” Garcia said before grabbing his son’s title belt, put over his shoulder and shouted “I’m the champ”

Thing really got out of hand when Garcia started screaming racial slurs and made a KO prediction of his own. The two had to be separated when Garcia tried to get at Thurman. The actual fighter, Danny Garcia didn’t even get involved it the shouting match until the scuffle spilled over on top of him.

When the dust settled Danny took the mic and calmly said that he had been there before and on March 4th, he’d be the one with his hand raised.

“I feel great and come March 4th, I’m going to be the unified champ again. This ain’t nothing new to me. I’ve been in unification fights before, I’ve been the underdog, I’ve done it all. Me and my father, Crazy Angel are going to come out with a great game plan and get the victory”
