Gallery Toe to Toe: Canelo vs. Angulo hits LA

Today, At the L.A public library in downtown Los Angeles, Canelo Alvarez and Alfredo Angulo faced off in advance of their March 8th fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Richard Schaefer (Golden Boy CEO):

“There is no belt at stake. There is pride at stake, the will to win at stake. Alfredo Angulo has been waiting for this opportunity and Canelo Alvarez wants to come back and show the world what he is all about. For both guys, it’s a must win situation. It’s not the belt. Its the pride, the recognition, to be considered the best at 154 lbs.”

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1, 30 KOs):

“Many have questioned, why Alfredo [Angulo]? Because he’s a very good fighter, a very strong fighter and he’s a fighter that comes forward. He knows how to give a punch and take a punch. He comes to fight. I’m sure all of you come to see a fight. You don’t want to see anyone that’s going to run all night. I’m glad his fans are here but my fans are better!”

Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo (22-3, 18 KOs):

“I’m the same Alfredo Angulo. I’m always going to give you a great fight, that’s what I do in every fight. I’ve earned my respect through my fights and March 8th is going to be no different!”

In the co-feature, undefeated Leo Santa Cruz will put his WBC super bantamweight strap on the line when he faces veteran Cristian Mijares.

Leo Santa Cruz (26-0, 15 KOs):

“Cristian Mijares is a great fighter. When I was starting my career, I use to see him fight. One time I sparred Jose Navaro, to help him prepare for Mijares. I watched that fight and I know he’s a great fighter.Hopefully we’ll give you the fight of the night.”

Cristian Mijares (49-7, 24 KOs):

“I’m motivated, I’m coming to win. I’m coming to be a world champion again and I’m not going to give away anything. I’m expecting to win. It’s going to be a war!”
