Avalos stops Araiza in 4!

Super Bantamweight Chris Avalos (20-2, 15 KOs) stopped Jose Luis Araiza (29-7-1, 20 KOs) in the fourth round on Saturday night at the C. Robert Lee Center in Hawaiian Gardens Ca.

After a feeling out first round, Avalos came out and applied pressure. Neither fighter was able to land anything significant until an unintentional head butt opened up a cut over Araiza’s left eye. Time was called and the ringside physician was brought in. Araiza was allowed to continue but chose not to, leaving referee Lou Moret no choice but to stop the bout at 1:42 and award Avalos the victory.

Light heavyweight Trevor McCumby (10-0, 8 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over a sturdy-chinned Ricardo Campillo (7-5-1, 5 KOs) to remain unbeaten. Campillo was beaten into a swollen, bloody mess but managed to go the distance and even won over the crowd who cheered his heart and effort, despite taking huge head snapping shots. McCumby controlled the action from the opening bell and dominated every minute to earn scores of 60-53 and 60-54 twice.

Jr. welterweight prospect Andrew Ruiz (6-0, 4 KOs) destroyed journeyman David Castillo (3-6) inside one round to remain unbeaten. Castillo would hit the canvas three times – all from left hooks – before referee Lou Moret stepped in and called a halt to the action at 2:52

Jr middleweight Michael Finny (10-0, 7 KOs) stopped Jesus Vallejo (5-9-1, 5 KOs) in the opening round. A left hook from Finny sent Vallejo crumbling to the canvas after a short delay. Moments later a second left hook shot to the body had Vallero on the canvas in agonizing pain. Referee Lou Moret immediately stepped in and waved it off at 1:56.

Unbeaten super featherweight Toka Kahn Clary (4-0, 3 KOs) stopped journeyman Pablo Cupul (6-10, 4 KOs) in the second round of a scheduled four. A straight left hand from the southpaw stance sent Cupul to the canvas in the first round. Clary would batter his opponent for the remainder of the round and through the second, until referee Jack Reiss mercifully stepped in and stopped the beating at 2:15.
