Gallery Berto KO’s Lopez inside 6!

Former welterweight champion Andre Berto (29-3,22 KOs) upset crowd favorite Josesito Lopez (33-6, 19 KOs) inside six rounds on Friday night at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario Ca.

Lopez fought well from a distance and seemed to take an early lead but Berto eventually found his range and rallied back. In the sixth a left-right combination put the Riverside fighter on the canvas and follow up right put Lopez down for a second time which propted the stoppage. Referee Raul Caiz Jr. stepped in and waved it off at 1:03 of the sixth without a count.

Berto picked up the interim WBA welterweight strap with the TKO victory.

In the co-feature, Shawn Porter (24-1, 15 KOs) stopped late replacement Erick Bone (16-1, 8 KOs) in five rounds of a scheduled ten. Porter dominated the action for most of the fight and ended it in the fifth following two knockdowns. Referee Jerry Cantu waved it off at 2:30 of the fifth.

In a heavyweight special attraction, Chris Arreola (35-4, 31 KOs) edged out a unanimous decision over a tough Curti Harper (12-3, 8 KOs) after eight rounds. Arreola dropped Harper in the opening round but the Florida fighter pulled himself together and put up a hell of a fight. It back-and-forth for the remainder of the fight with both guys taking big shots but some how managing to stay on their feet. In the end all three judges would have Arreola on top with scores of 76-75, 77-74 and 78-73.

Also on the card,

Featherweight Hanzel Martinez (21-2, 17 KOs) won a unanimous decision over German Meraz (48-33, 26 KOs) after eight rounds.

Unbeaten featherweight Oscar Molina (10-0, 8 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO victory over Jose Alberto Leal (9-6, 4 KOs) in a bout scheduled for six.

Undefeated heavyweight Gerald Washington (15-0, 11 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Jason Gavern (26-18, 11 KOs) after 8 round.

Lightweight Miguel Vasquez (34-4, 13 KOs) took a wide unanimous decision over Jerry Belmontes (19-5, 5 KOs) after ten rounds.

Berto vs. Lopez was part of Premier Boxing Champion and broadcast live on the Spike Network.
