On Saturday night, in front of a sold out crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Floyd “Money” Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) scored a dominate twelve round majority decision over Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KOs).

Mayweather’s superior skill set made it look easy as he dominated the action and out-boxed the 23 year old for nearly 12 straight rounds.

“Mayweather is very fast and accurate and more so when he’s just trying to score points.” Said a disappointed Alvarez “I didn’t want to lose, I didn’t want to leave here with a loss but it happens and it hurts.”

Canelo had moments but could not put together enough offense to break the infamous Mayweather defense.

“Tonight, experience played a major key.” Said the 36 year old Mayweather  “Canelo has everything it takes to be a legend in the sport. Tonight was just my night.”

Official scores were 116-112 117-111 for the win and while most watching struggled to find more than 2 rounds to give Canelo, judge C.J Ross amazingly found 6, scoring the mostly one-sided affair a draw at 114-114.

“The best commission in the world is the Nevada commission so I’ll leave it in the hands of the commission” said Mayweather about the controversial scorecard “What else can I say… we did it again.”

In the co-main event, Danny Garcia (27-0, 16 KOs) proved the critics wrong as he was able to withstand the power of Argentine slugger Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse (34-3, 32 KOs) and went on to earn a unanimous decision victory after 12 rounds.

“We had a game plan and we stuck to it” Said Garcia, who started slow but rallied in the second half. “I knew I had 12 rounds to work with, I didn’t want to go in there and shoot everything I had in the first 6 rounds. He’s dangerous and a strong puncher so I knew if I just used my legs a little bit, make him miss, I’d get him in the end.”

The tide seemed to turn mid-way through the fight when Matthysse’s eye swelled and nearly shut.

“I think it was a jab. I saw him blinking his eye and about 45 seconds later his eye was closed, so I just kept working it.”  Said Garcia who successfully defended his super lightweight (140 lbs.) titles but stated that he will likely make the move to welterweight (147 lbs.) “I’ve beat the best fighters at 140, what’s left for me to do?”
