Mexico’s Robinson Castellanos (20-10, 12 KOs) pulled off the upset on Friday night at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio Ca., stopping the previously undefeated Ronny Rios (23-1, 10 KOs) inside five rounds of a scheduled ten. Rios fought off Castellano in the opening round but in the second a brutal barrage of punches sent the Santa Ana fight to the canvas. Rios would make it to his feet by the count of seven and was allowed to continue. Castellanos unloaded on a clearly hurt Rios and sent him staggering to his corner at the end of the round. Rios survived the third and fourth but huge right hand and a follow up barrage had referee Ray Corona stepping in to save Rios just 11 seconds into the fifth.

“I connected with every right hand” said Castellanos “ He’s a strong kid, a great warrior and I don’t doubt he will be a world champion but tonight was my night”

Welterweight contender Antonio Orozco (20-0, 15 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over veteran Steve Forbes (35-13, 11 KOs) in the co-feature. Orozco, of San Diego dominated the action over the eight round bout and had Forbes in trouble and on the ropes in the final round. Scores were 80-72 all around.

Featherweight prospect Diego De La Hoya (7-0, 5 KOs) went the distance with a tough Luis Ruiz Lizarraga Jr. (5-2-1, 2 KOs) to earn a dominate unanimous decision after six rounds. Scores were 60-54 all around.

Super middleweight prospect Antonio Gutierrez (16-0-1, 7 KOs) won a majority decision over Dashon Johnson (15-16-3, 5 KOs) after six rounds. Scores were 59-56 twice while a third judge had it even at 57-57.

Jr. middlewight Neeco Macias (7-0, 3 KOs) stopped Robert Crespo (4-4) in the second round of a scheduled four.

Unbeaten lightweight Santiago Guervara (8-0, 3 KOs) took a unanimous decision over Rocco Espinoza (4-9) after four rounds. Scores were 40-36 all around.

Lightweight Jesus Delgado (2-0-1) scored a first round KO over Joan Valenzuela (1-2).

Unbeaten super bantamweight Oscar Negrete (7-0, 3 KOs) stopped Salvador Perez (2-6, 1 KO) in the second round of a scheduled four.
