HBO severs ties with Golden Boy Promotions

HBO Sports President Ken Hershman announced today that for now the network will not be buying fights from Golden Boy Promotions.

“In order to achieve our goal of the best fighters in the most compelling match-ups, we’ve decided to focus our efforts and resources on those strategic relationships where we better share common goals and business philosophies,” Hershman said in a statement.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer and Oscar De La Hoya have both responded.

“The loser here is really the HBO subscribers, which are now going to miss out on some of those big fights,” said Schaefer.

“Game on, I am so pumped to bring all the great fights to SHOWTIME and CBS. Good luck With your captain sailing you through the Dead Sea” Said De La Hoya via Twitter “good luck HBO. Smart move by Ken Hershman the man who was sinking Showtime before Stephen Espinoza took over”
