Gallery Martin Crushes Hidalgo in 5!

San Diego’s Christopher Martin (26-2-3, 8 KOs) stopped Raul Hidalgo (17-8, 13 KOs) in the fifth round on Friday night at the Double Tree Hotel in Ontario Ca.

Martin got off to a slow start and had trouble fighting off Hidalgo’s attack in the early rounds. Hidalgo was outworking Martin when an uppercut stopped the Mexican in his tracks. A few body shots later and it seemed that Hidalgo was beginning to unravel. In the fifth Martin turned up the pressure and flurry of shots followed by a brutal body blow sent Hidalgo crumbling to the canvas. Referee Ray Corona would reach the count of ten with Hidalgo still on the canvas and in obvious pain.

Super featherweights Efrain Esquivias (16-2, 9 KOs) and Victor Sanchez (5-6-1, 2 KOs) fought to a technical draw after two rounds. An accidental clash of heads opened up a gash over Sanchez’s right eye in the first round and the blood immediately began to flow. In the second, a bloodied Sanchez attempted to work past the blood in his eye as he pressed the action but Esquivias boxed well and picked off shots as Sanchez rushed in. Constant pawing at the bloodied eye prompted referee Ray Corona to step in and stop the action. Moments later, at the request of the ringside physician Corona waived it off. Official time was 2:22.

San Diego’s Giovanni Santillan (9-0, 5 KOs) dominated Adam Ealoms (3-4-3, 1 KO) en route to a six round unanimous decision in the welterweight division. Santillan pressed the action and simply outworked the Texan over the six rounds to earn the one-sided scores of 60-54 all around.

Heavyweight Justin Goslee (1-0, 1 KO) just barely won his pro-debut by KO’ing Jose Hermosillo (0-1) who was also in the ring for the first time as a professional. Goslee floored Hermosillo early in the round and was warned for hitting the downed fighter. A point was taken after Goslee again hit Hermosillo while down. A third knock down prompted referee Ray Corona to step in and save the bloodied Hermosillo. Official time was 2:14.

LA’s Danny Roman (6-1-1, 2 KOs) scored a four round unanimous decision over a game Manuel Ruvalcaba (1-5). Ruvalcaba had his moments as he was able to counter and connect with wild right hands but Roman walked through those shots and unloaded combinations to the head and body. A body shot floored the Texan but he would go the distance. Scores were 40-35 all around.

Undefeated middleweight Joshua Conley (7-0, 6 KOs) stopped an unwilling Robert Lara (0-4) in the first round of a scheduled four. Conley caught a retreating Lara with a body shot that sent him to the canvas. Referee Ray Corona would reach the count of ten with Lara on the canvas and unable to continue. Official time was 1:07.
