Junior welterweight Mauricio Herrera (18-2, 7 KOs) stole the show in his last bout with undefeated Mike Alvarado on April 4th and even though he was on the losing end of a unanimous decision, he did enough to earn himself a shot at Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (30-0, 22 KOs), who also fought that night in the main event.

“Herrera looked good fighting Alvarado,” Promoter Bob Arum told The Ring “So that’s going to be a great fight”

Rios, 26 will be making the move up to 140 lbs where Herrera has called home for most of his career.

“I could have the advantage (at 140) but to me it doesn’t matter” Herrera told Standnfight.com “I’m just going to go out there and go back to how I use to fight and that’s box in a entertaining way”

Herrera, 31 won over fans in his war with Alvarado and says he will, once again give the fans something to talk about.

” I’m expecting Rios to come out with no foot work and come forward” Said Herrera “I’m not gonna lie, I will fight toe-to-toe in spots and give boxing fans a fight to talk about.”

Herrera vs. Rios is tentatively set for July 7th at the Home Depot Center in Carson California as the co-feature to Nonito Donair and Jeffrey Mathebula’s super bantamweight unification bout.
