On Saturday, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero won a 12 round unanimous decision over former world champion Andre Berto. The two fought a fast paced war for 12 hard rounds and though Guerrero seemed to dominate the action, it remained close and competitive through out the fight. Berto battled back from 2 early knockdowns while trying to fight off the relentless pressure of Guerrero. In the end, Guerrero would get the clear victory with scores of 116-110.

Though some entertained the idea of a rematch, Team Guerrero and promoter Golden Boy seemed to be focused on a much bigger task… Floyd Mayweather.

Here is what they had to say following the victory.

Richard Schaefer [Golden Boy Promotions CEO]:

“Tonight wasn’t just a win, it was a statement to everyone in the 147 lb. weight class but I know, he made it cleasr to me that there is only one guy he wants and that’s Floyd Mayweather”

“[Robert] did his job in the ring and now it will be up to me to see if I can deliver and put together that pound-for-pound showdown”

Robert Guerrero [WBC interim welterweight champion] :

“If you ain’t putting me in the top ten pound-for-pound now, you’re just hating, you’re just hating on me”

“I did say I wanted to beat him for 12 rounds and that’s what I did. He has a soft chin and I knew I could put him down but he was determined to win. He wanted to get back to where he left off, before the victor Ortiz fight, so I knew he was coming game.”

“Berto did hit hard but nowhere as hard as [Selcuk] Aydin did. Aydin was a hard puncher. Wherever he hit me, it hurt. I was walking through [Berto’s] shots and it just shows I can take a shot”

“I’m determined to fight the best fighters and that’s why I want to fight Floyd Mayweather. People said that I’m just trying to cash out but I want to fight the best and be the best. I don’t want to just get paid because I know if I fight the best and I’m the best, i’ll get paid no matter what. So I’m here to fight”

“I ain’t scared to exchange, I ain’t scared to punch, I ain’t scared to be in the mix. When I come to fight, I come to fight. Styles make fights and I really feel that Mayweather, I’ll take him out”

“I’ll be watching the Pacquiao-Marquez fight but my main focus is Mayweather. He’s the best pound-for-pound and that’s where I want to be”

Ruben Guerrero [Father/Trainer]:

“I tried to make him box but he didn’t want to listen to me in the corner so I sad ‘you know what, this guy is on his own.. you know what your doing”
