Hot! Bogere KO’s Contreras in 3!

In the opening round, Bogere doubled the jab to the head and body while his opponent attempted to catch him coming in with counter left hooks. In the second, Contreras was able to time “The Lion” lunging forward and landed multiple left hooks in that round. Both fighters threw power shots in the third but without much accuracy, Bogere smothered most of his shots while Contreras fought him off in the opening minute. A right hand to the jaw at 1:45 of the round, followed by a shot deflected off the shoulder onto the back of Contreras’ head laid him out face down on the canvas as referee Jay Nady counted him out.

Contreras remained on the canvas until his neck could be stabilized and was eventually taken out of the ring on a stretcher.

The official ruling by Nady and the Nevada State Athletic Commission was that the first right hand caused the damage that left Contreras unable to continue. The follow up shot to the back of the head was deemed legal because Contreras turned his back to Bogere after catching the right. Official time was 2:01

After the fight, Begere’s handlers called out Southern California’s John Molina (23-1, 19 KOs).

In the co-feature, junior middleweight Jermell Charlo (16-0, 7 KOs) scored an eight round unanimous decision over Francisco Santana (12-3-1, 6 KOs). Aside from a big right hand that stunned Charlo in the sixth, it was pretty much a one-sided fight. Scores were 79-73, 78-74, 79-73.
