Carlos Carlson defeats Javier Gallo after 8!

On Friday night, Thompson Boxing Promotions kicked off their 2014 season with Tijuana’s Carlos Carlson (13-0, 9 KOs) defeating tough veteran Javier Gallo (21-9-1, 12 KOs) at the Double Tree Hotel in Ontario Ca.

Carlson would started and dominate the action with accurate combinations while Gallo pressed forward and threw wild shots with bad intentions. Gallo had his moments throughout the fight but midway through, Carlson turned things around and was forced to chase Gallo from corner to corner, catching him with hard shots along the way. After eight rounds, two judges would see it 78-74 while the third judge saw it 77-75 all for the undefeated Carlson who claimed the vacant WBC Latino bantamweight title with the victory.

Isaac Zarate

In the co-featured bout of the night, bantamweight prospect Isaac Zarate (7-1) won an all-action unanimous decision over a gritty Christian Torres (3-4) after six rounds. Torres pressed the action and kept it entertaining but took punishment from Zarate who’s two punch combinations landed with pin point accuracy. Zarate slowed in the closing rounds as Torres made one last ditch effort but in the end it just wasn’t enough. Two judges would agree with scores of 59-55 while the third judge saw it 58-56 all in favor of Zarate.

Also on the card,

Heavyweights Justin Davenport (1-0-2, 1 KO) and Jonathan Rice (0-0-1) fought to a comical majority draw. Rice who was making his pro-debut did little to nothing while Davenport pressed the action but stumbled around the ring in attempts to land a punch. Scores were 39-37 for Davenport and 38-38 twice for the draw.

Unbeaten lightweight Cesar Villarraga (2-0, 1KO) dominated the action and cruised to a unanimous decision victory over Osman Rivera (2-5) of Santa Monica. After four rounds, one judge had it a complete shut out for Villarraga with a score of 40-36 while the other two saw it 39-37

Featherweight Joet Gonzalez (6-0, 1 KO) earned a unanimous decision over a rugged Cesar Martinez (4-2-1, 1 KO) after six rounds. Martinez put in some good work to the body but was simply out worked by the more technical Gonzalez. Scores were 58-56 and 59-55 twice.

Undefeated Neeco Macias (3-0, 1 KO) scored a four round unanimous decision over Victor Altamirano (0-2) of Moreno Valley. Scores were 40-36 all around
