Early this morning (5 a.m West Coast time) in Macau China, The “Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21 KOs) won a fourth round technical decision over South African fighter Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-3, 16 KOs).

Donaire suffered a cut over his left eye at the end of the opening round and by the second round, was badly bleeding and was being monitored by the referee and ringside physician.

In the final seconds of the second round, another unintentional head clash opened up the cut a bit more.

Donaire came out swinging for the fences in round three and though he took some big right hands in the process, it was the more aggressive Donaire with the bigger shots.

Unfortunately the end would come just as things were heating up. Vetyeka was taking the fight to Donaire when a left hook put him down on the canvas. The two traded shots to end the fourth.

Referee Luis Pabon would signal the start of the fifth round but would wave it off immediately after due to the cut.

After 4 complete rounds the Scorecards would read, 49-46 all around for Donaire.

With the win, Donaire claims the WBA super featherweight title.

“I’m my biggest critic, I just want to give the fans the best fight and I was half way there” said an Apologetic Donaire “I promise Simpiwe and his camp I would give them a rematch because I can not take this victory, it’s unfinished business”

“When I cut him I got careless” Vetyeka said of the knockdown and stated that he felt the cut was caused by a punch and intended to work the eye throughout the fight.

Also “The Raging Bull” Vic Darchinyan (39-7, 28 KOs) was knocked out for the second time in as many fights. The Armenian slugger was looking to rebound from a TKO loss to Nonito Donaire last year, taking on undefeated “Ax Man” Nicholas Walters (24-0, 20 KOs) of Jamaica. Darchinyan would hit the deck twice before being stretched out by a devastating left hook that had referee Raul Caiz Jr. waving it off.
