Gallery Khan and Team Molina speak!

Amir Khan soundly defeated a tough Carlos Molina in front of over 6000 fans at the L.A Memorial Sports Arena on Saturday night. The UK fighter, under the guidance of new trainer Virgil Hunter said the night of action was “all about sticking to the game plan”

Amir Khan:

I was disciplined and stuck to the game plan. There were times when I could have put pressure on a little bit more and got a little bit wild and that would have been exciting for you guys but I played it safe and stuck to the game plan.

I already see myself as a better fighter and we’re only going to improve. It’s only been 10 weeks, working with Virgil [Hunter] and I’m sure we have a bright future. We’ll be back as a world champion very soon and back to where we need to be.

Carlos Molina was a tough fighter. We didn’t expect that but that’s what you get when you fight someone in his home town.

This fight was all about sticking to the game plan and showing that Amir Khan is a good boxer and can stick to instructions.

I wanted to do the rounds. I’m glad the fight did go the way it did because that’s the way I’m going to learn. It’s better than going in there and knocking someone out in the first round. You learn more when the fight goes longer.

The hometown fighter Carlos Molina showed tons of heart as he battled through a bloodied eye and remained on his feet, despite being out gunned. Molina, who had fallen so far behind on the scorecards, left his corner no choice but to halt to the action after the tenth round.

Molina did not attend the post fight presser but his trainer Clemente Medina explained the stoppage.

Clemente Medina:

Well, I stopped Carlos [Molina] in the fight because you know, we weren’t winning the fight in the ring. But Carlos is good and we’ll come back next year.

Amir Khan is a great fighter. He dominated with his jab and his movements. We’ll have to work on that.
