Khan batters Molina for 10!

Amir “King” Khan (27-3, 18 KOs) battered a game but out-classed Carlos Molina 17-0-1, 7 KOs) for ten straight rounds on Saturday night at the L.A Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles.

Khan controlled to action with a long jab and battered the face of Molina with the follow up straight right. Molina, who fought through a cut over his left eye from the first round on, was able to catch Khan coming in but it wasn’t enough to match the high out put of Khan who put round after round in the bank. The end would come after a punishing tenth round when referee Jack Reese called a halt to the fight at the request of Molina’s corner. The ringside physician had been keeping a close eye on the bloodied Norwalk fighter since the eight round and was on the verge of stopping it.

Undefeated heavyweight Deontay Wilder (26-0, 26 KOs) kept his perfect KO record intact with a devastating third round stoppage of previously unbeaten Kelvin Price (13-1. 6 KOs). After two slow rounds where both men seemed leery of any type of offense, Wilder loaded up and threw a huge over-hand right in the third that connected right on the chin, sending Price crashing to the canvas and unable to continue. Official time was :51.

In an all out slug-fest between battling middleweights, Alfredo Angulo (22-2, 18 KOs) pounded out a hard-fought victory over a rugged Jorge Silva (19-2, 15 KOs) after ten rounds. The two exchanged heavy-handed combinations from the opening bell but it was Angulo’s steady work rate that earned him scores of 97-93 all around. Silva had his moments throughout the brawl as he was able to counter and rock “el Perro” with thunderous left hooks to the head. However it wasn’t enough to deter Angulo from pressing forward and throwing the heavier volume.

Coachella Valley’s Julio “the Kidd” Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KOs) and Cleveland OH.’s Shawn Porter (20-0-1, 14 KOs) fought to a split-decision draw after ten rounds of back-and-forth action. Porter got off to a quick start, using his speed and foot work to take the opening two rounds. Diaz however found his range in the third and landed over-hand rights and left hooks to the body, taking the next two rounds. The second half of the fight saw Diaz press the action while Porter boxed and picked his shots from the outside. Going into the final two rounds, the fight was close and seemed up for grabs. Diaz kept his foot on the gas but took punishment as he pressed forward. In the end, the two would both earn scores of 96-94 in their favor but the deciding third judge would see it even at 95-95 for the spit-draw.

Continuing his return to the ring, undefeated Frankie “The Pitbull” Gomez (14-0, 10 KOs) brutally knocked out Pavel Miranda (17-9-1, 8 KOs) in the first round of a scheduled eight. A left hook-right hand combination sent the Mexican fighter crashing to the canvas in the opening minute of the round. Miranda attempted to make it to his feet but as he stumbled on shaky legs, referee Zach Young chose to halt the action just 48 seconds in.

Oxnard Ca.’s Hugo Centeno Jr. (17-0, 9 KOs) stopped Allen Conyers (12-7, 9 KOs) after seven rounds of a scheduled eight. A left-right combination floored Conyers in the opening round and from there, Centeno battered the New Yorker for six straight round. After the seventh, referee Ray Corona called a halt to the action at the request of Conyers corner.

Undefeated Texan Jerren Cochran (7-0, 3 KOs) won a four round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Chris Lopez (5-0, 2 KOs). In a all action affair at jr. lightweight, Cochran earned scores of 39-37 and 40-36 twice.
