Following his ten round unanimous decision loss to Devon Alexander at welterweight, Marcos Rene Maidana (31-3, 28 KOs) has begun training in Oxnard Ca. with trainer Robert Garcia. The Argentinian slugger says he will drop back down to 140 where he feels more comfortable and has his eyes set on a rematch with Amir Khan.

Standnfight’s Dominic Serna caught up with Maidana just a few days into training. Here’s what he had to say.

DS: How do you feel about training here at the Garcia Boxing Gym?

Maidana: I’ve been here for a couple days. I just started with (Robert Garcia). I’m feeling good and getting to know Robert.

It’s a nice peaceful place where I can concentrate and get ready.

DS: In your last fight with Devon Alexander you fought at welterweight, do you plan on moving up to 147 or will you stay at 140?

Maidana: I tried to move up to 147 already but I didn’t feel comfortable, I’m staying at 140.

DS: Alexander, being lefty, did that give you any problems?

Maidana: The left handed stance did make it complicated for me and the slick style he had made it difficult for me to fight my fight.

DS: In preparing for Devon, was it tough finding sparring that could mimic that slick southpaw style?

Maidana: It was very difficult finding sparring partners that could fight like Alexander but we did the best we could and got the best work we could with the sparring partners we had.

The fight went the way we expected it to. Devon threw punches and held on. He was hugging and didn’t let me fight my fight.

DS: Staying at 140, What fights are you looking for there?

Maidana: I really want the rematch with Amir Khan. I feel I won that fight and I want that rematch.
