Hot! Sanchez Stuns Reyes in Rematch!

Alan Sanchez

On Friday Night Fight’s co-feature, Fairfield, California’s Alan Sanchez (10-2-1, 4KOs) scored a first round TKO over Colton’s Artemio “King” Reyes (15-2, 12 KOs) at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas,NV.

Sanchez 21, lost a close split decision to Reyes in June of 2010 but would avenge that loss with a devastating barrage of punches that had the “King” on the canvas and referee Joe Cortez waiving it off at 2:08 of the opening round.

Reyes came out at the bell and walked down Sanchez, shooting a long jab as he pressed forward. Just when Reyes had started to find his range and get in some good body work, Sanchez landed two left hooks that stopped Reyes in his track. Two vicious uppercuts followed by a huge right hand rocked the taller welterweight and sent him back against the ropes on wobbly legs. Sanchez would hammer Reyes with multiple head snapping right hands, sending him stumbling from corner to corner. A final one-two combination sent Reyes crumbling to the canvas and had it not been for the series of hard unanswered blows, referee Cortez may have started a count. Instead he chose to halt the action there without a count.

Despite losing his father who had been in a coma for four years-just weeks earlier, Reyes offered no excuses;

“Didn’t get the victory I’m sorry to disappoint.” Reyes said in a Facebook post “At least give me a chance to beat the 10 count is all I could ask for. Thanks to everyone who showed me support. I promise to come back stronger than ever!”

In the main event, Michael Katsidis (28-5, 23 KOs) was on the losing end of a thriller against Albert Mensah (19-3-1, 10 KOs) of Ghana. One judge would see the welterweight brawl a draw while the other two scored it 96-94 and 98-92 in favor of Albert Mensah
