Undefeated Cuban heavyweight Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (21-0, 17 KOs) stopped veteran Monte Barrett (35-11, 20 KOs) inside four rounds on Thursday night at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio Ca. A counter left hand from the southpaw Ortiz stunned and opened up a small cut under Barrett’s right eye in the opening round and from there Barrett was pretty much ready to go. Three rounds later, a straight left sent Berrett to the canvas on one knee. Referee Raul Caiz Sr. made the correct decision in waving it off right there. Barrett never seemed to be in the fight and his punches, when he threw didn’t have much on them. Official time was :38 of round four.

In the co-feature, Former USC football player Gerald Washington (12-0, 9 KOs) won a controversial KO victory over Skipp Scott (16-2, 10 KOs) at 1:40 of the second round. Washington, of Vallejo Ca. landed a crushing right hand that had Scott on weary legs. A clearly hurt Scott attempted to hold but eventually dropped to one knee and unfortunately took a shot just under the armpit as he was down. Scott stumbled to his feet and beat the count but referee Lou Moret did not allow him to continue. **Scott’s corner said they will appeal the decision, stating it should be a no-contest.

Also, Unbeaten heavyweight Dominic Breazeale (10-0, 9 KOs) dominated veteran Nagy Aguilera (19-8, 13 KOs) over eight rounds to earn a unanimous decision. Breazeale, who was looking for his ninth straight win by KO had Aguilera hurt on multiple occasions but could not put the gritty Dominican away. A one-two combination stunned Aguilera in the final moments of round two and Breazeale followed up with a flurry before the end of the round. From there Breazeale would punish Aguilera with a series of head snapping uppercuts and vicious body shots to secure the victory with scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.

In a special attraction, unbeaten prospect Diego De La Hoya (4-0, 3 KOs) scored a six round unanimous decision over Jaxel Marrero (1-2). A jab-right combination just fifteen seconds into the opening round sent Marrero straight back and on the canvas. He would survive the round but remained in survival mode for the remainder of the fight. De La Hoya unloaded quick combinations at will and went on to earn scores of 60-54 all around.
